My Background
My name's Amber Born and I am a first- generation college student with my bachelors in Biology. I am currently a driven first year masters student in the school of Forestry at NAU and conduct wildlife conservation and ecology based research. I also have a strong interest in botany and entomology. I am immensely thankful for the opportunity to research how to better the health of humans and wildlife.
Undergraduate Research
Throughout my undergrad I researched how biodiversity across trophic scales differ between organic and conventional rice farming practices in Chico, California. We conducted studies at the micro-scale with Arbuscular Mycorrhizae Fungi (AMF), the meso-scale with terrestrial athropods, and Herpetology at the macro-scale. There is incredible importance in better understanding these habitats that both humans and wildlife heavily rely on.
Masters Research
My current research focuses on how fire severity affects the critically endagered, Jemez Mountain Salamander (Plethodon neomexicanus) habitat characteristics and prey base. This project aims to fill the gap of arthropod biodversity and abundance in Jemez Springs, NM and to guide future forest restoration techniques.
